100 Cases In Clinical Pathology written by Eamon Shamil and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-28 with Medical categories.

A 27-year-old Ghanaian woman presents in the emergency department with a three-day history of headache, nausea, and vague lower abdominal pain. She has no significant past medical history, but is eight-weeks pregnant with her first child. She lives in London and returned from a trip to Ghana two weeks ago. You have been assigned her initial assessment... 100 Cases in Clinical Pathology presents 100 clinical scenarios commonly seen by medical students and junior doctors in the emergency department, outpatient clinic, or in general practice in which an understanding of the underlying clinical pathology is central to arriving at the correct diagnosis. A succinct summary of the patient's history, examination, and initial investigations—histopathology, chemical pathology, haematology, microbiology, and clinical immunology as appropriate—is followed by questions on each case, with particular emphasis on the interpretation of the results and the arrival at a clinicopathologic diagnosis. The answer includes a detailed discussion on each topic, providing an essential revision aid as well as a practical guide for students and junior doctors. Making speedy and appropriate clinical decisions, and choosing the best course of action to take as a result, is one of the most important and challenging parts of training to become a doctor. These true-to-life cases will teach students and junior doctors to recognize important clinical conditions, to request the appropriate pathological investigation and correctly interpret those results, and, as a result, to develop their diagnostic and management skills.

The illustrated lecture series This series of illustrated lectures on the medical disciplines and surgery fulfils three basic student needs—to understand, to revise, and to memorise. Working on the principle that information is best transmitted, absorbed and retained through the use of illustrations, experts in different subject have worked with medical artists to produce a massive number of drawings which illustrate every significant statement in the text. Thus a powerful visual impact is created which enhances understanding, simplifies revision and, perhaps most important, imprints the information upon the memory: in short, an ideal format for recall of information under examination conditions. Each book in the series covers a different subject and offers: fully indexed text covering the essentials of each subject in a succinct and lucid fashion several hundred illustrations with numbered labels for quick revision key words and phrases identified by bold type in the text expert authorship by teachers and practitioners direct linkage with examination curricula a framework for further study and reading a design which offers students the option of adding their own notes Although primarily intended for medical students, this series will be of substantial use to nurses and allied health professionals, and to busy practitioners needing a quick refresher course in a particular subject. Current titles in the Illustrated Lecture Series: Neurology and Psychiatry (P. N. Plowman) Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases (P. N. Plowman) Nephrology, Electrolyte Pathophysiology and Poisoning (P. N. Plowman) Haematology and Immunology (P. N. Plowman) Cardiology (T. J. Phillips, P. N. Plowman) Respiratory Medicine (P. N. Blood Science written by Andrew Blann and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-02 with Science categories.

Blood Science is a relatively new discipline which merges biochemistry, haematology, immunology, transfusion science and genetics. This bringing together of traditional disciplines requires a corresponding change in education and training for healthcare scientists and Blood Science: Principles and Pathology is written in response to this emerging need. An introduction to the subject and an overview of the techniques used in blood science are followed by a series of chapters based on groups of analytes investigated in blood - red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, followed by the constituents of plasma, including waste products, electrolytes, glucose, lipids, enzymes, hormones, nutrients, drugs, poisons and others. Each chapter is supported by learning objectives, summaries and further information, and a focus is given to chapter specific case studies with interpretation to demonstrate how laboratory data in conjunction with clinical details is utilised when investigating patients with actual or suspected disease. Finally, a separate chapter offers more detailed case reports that integrate the different aspects of blood science. Undergraduate students taking blood science modules as part of their BSc programmes in Biomedical and Healthcare Sciences will appreciate the level of integration between clinical biochemistry and haematology. In addition, this book will provide suitable initial reading for those students embarking on blood science modules on MSc programmes and will be of value to new graduates entering the profession and starting their career in blood science departments by supplementing practice-based training with the required theoretical underpinning. This book is approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science and written by its expert writers, many of whom work on the Institute’s advisory panels.
